As He Assumes UNSC President… It Is Time To Correct This Historical Injustice Says President Bio
His excellency Julius Maada Bio has maintained that it is now time to correct the historical injustice in the United Nations Security Council.
President Bio stated that they will work closely with the P5 and regional groups to vigorously pursue Security Council reforms that will ensure the inclusive and equitable representation of Africa’s 1.2 billion people which has been existing for Seventy-Nine (79) years.
This was made known in a press release dated 10th August 2024 from State House Office of the Press Secretary informing the people that President has arrived in New York to assume his role as President of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the month of August.
The release stated that it marks a historic moment as Sierra Leone takes the helm of the world’s foremost body for maintaining international peace and security after more than half a century.
“…I look forward to presiding over several critical sessions as we lead the United Nations Security Council this August,” President Bio stated.
He expressed hope that their efforts will yield significant and impactful outcomes.
He said that Sierra Leone’s goal is to facilitate meaning dialogue rooted in mutual trust and respect that aims for peaceful and sustainable resolutions to conflicts and addressing global challenges collectively.
