EDSA Calls For Prepaid Meter Upgrade Before 30Th October …To Access The Second Generation Token

The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has called on their customers to upgrade their prepaid meters before the deadline of 30th October 2024 at no cost.
In a press conference at the Headquarters of the Authority’s office, the Deputy Minister 1 of Energy, Dr. Eldred Taylor informed the media that the upgrading process has commenced through the purchase of electricity tokens. He described the process as a transformative drive to deliver quality service to the people.
Minister Taylor maintained that upon the purchase of the electricity token, the customer will be issued sixty (60) digit numbers with separators after every twenty (20) digits and that customers are required to input the digits in 20 digits after ever 15 seconds until all the 60 digits are correctly inputted.
“Once the process is completed, the meter will display an indicator of ‘02’ or ‘success’,” the Minister stated.
He however, informed that the 60 digits will be issued to customers just once for the meter to be upgraded, adding that the Apator and Momas meters are not compatible with this second generation of tokens.
He assured that the Authority has prioritized the replacement of the incompatible meters with no cost attached and asked that all customers with these types of meters to report to EDSA’s offices across the country.
“Based on our study so far, we have realized that about 80 to 90 percent of the meters at EDSA are compatible with the TID rollover (the upgrade),” he said.
The Authority also informed customers to continue using telecom platforms (Q-Cell, Orange and Africell), other aggregators like Vendtech, Mercy Holdings, Lynx Solutions, Dycar and EDSA offices to procure token at ease for the meter upgrade exercise.
The Authority warned that if people fail to upgrade, it there will come a time when they will not be able to top up their meters and will be out of electricity.
