Recycling of people who were sacked for doing wrong has cropped up again in the government of President Julius Maada Bio in less than a year in power.
Former President Koroma was criticized for recycling people who had been sacked for doing the wrong and now President Bio is working in the same road as former President Koroma.
It could be recalled that President Bio in less than a month in power sacked his Secretary Dennis Vandi for unlawfully suspending Sierra Leone’s Financial Acts 2016, 2017 and 2018.
According to a letter from the Office of the President as signed by the then Secretary to the President, came out with an executive order purportedly from the President, suspending laws of the country for which many believed was treasonable.
After coming out with that statement, the same Dennis Vandi shamefacedly and woefully took the blame for the mess by coming out with another press release which seen him sadly took responsibility for a blunder many believed he did not do but was acting on authority.
The meaningless release, no doubt claimed that the Secretary to the President wrongly ascribed a directive to the President regarding the suspension of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Financial Acts.
“ I erred in that memorandum by ascribing to His Excellency the President that he made such a direction,” Dennis Vandi stated in a ‘’scape-goatized’’ letter.
In a less than a week after taking the blame, Vandi was relieved of his duties by President Bio and Julius Fofana Sandi was appointed as the new Secretary to the President.
Well, just to prove to Sierra Leoneans as in the 21st May 2018 NEW AGE Publication, “DENIS VANDI SCAPEGOATIZED… WHO FOOLS WHO AT STATE HOUSE,” the President has appointed the disgraced Secretary to President, Denis K Vandi as Special Envoy for Trade and Investment.
In his(Vandi) letter of appointment dated 16 November, Denis Vandi was informed that it has pleased by His Excellency the President to appoint him as Special Envoy For Trade and Investment.
That his duties are: promoting Sierra Leone’s business, products and trade interests abroad, identifying trade and investment opportunities in emerging and growth markets, and bringing them to the attention of the appropriate authorities and any other duties as assigned to him by the President from time to time.
“ The terms and conditions of service in respect of your appointment will be communicated to you in due course,” meaning the job is a fully government remunerated job.
This has also brought to the minds of the people about the seriousness of the Presidency in promoting investment in Sierra Leone as no credible investors will want to link with such an envoy that already has a dented credibility.
Others are saying that this appointment showed that the President fooled the people by sacking Vandi as Secretary for making a mistake on his ( the President) orders.
Some say that the President has made deluge of appointments which is incongruous with the promise of the President in reducing the wage structure he inherited from former President Koroma.
The Leader of the Opposition National Grand Coalition (NGC), Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has asked the SLPP Government to be very careful about expending government money particularly in wages and salaries of more directorates, agencies and commissions but it seems as if this advised has fallen on deaf ears.
